THE KUKU YALANJI PEOPLE

"THE HUNTER"

The Kuku Yalanji people are the Traditional Owners of the Mossman Gorge region, with a cultural history that reaches back around 50,000 years to the earliest human presence in Australia. Often described as rainforest people, their way of life is deeply connected to the surrounding environment—Country is not separate from them, and they are not separate from it. This relationship is powerfully experienced through Indigenous guided walks at Mossman Gorge. Kuku Yalanji Country spans a large area, extending from south of Mossman to Cooktown in the north, and west to the Palmer River.
